With the release of the Pure Storage FlashBlade, the academic world now has access to a powerful, fast and economical solution to their big-data problem. This paper addresses the challenges of current storage systems faced by genomic researchers. The problem is addressed in terms of increased demand for storage and barriers to success. And, the FlashBlade solution is explored in detail, demonstrating its value to genomics, and in turn, to any academic facility that processes extremely large data sets.
