As the public cloud started to gain mainstream acceptance, people quickly realized that they had to adopt two different ways of doing things. One set of best practices – and tools – applied to resources that were running on premises, and an entirely different set applied to cloud resources. Now the industry is starting to get back to the point where a common set of best practices can be applied regardless of where an organization’s IT resources physically reside.
